Good hotel good staff very friendly close to shopping centre and ice rink and public transport. A big thank you to Sandie for the service and friendship given to us every morning at breakfast .we will use this hotel again as it's good value for money
Had tea for 2, fantastic value, great selection of sandwiches and cakes and the staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough definitely going back, highly recommend
I'll start by saying that for this trip we did book one of the cheapest hotels in East Kilbride, that said The Bruce must have been a magnificent place back in the day.The location was good, very central to the town centre and the bedroom we had (a family room) was very clean and well decorated, but that's where the positives end.Firstly the car park was small (although we did managed to get parked, just about, both days) we weren't warned how small the car park was. Whilst we booked direct with The Bruce, when we turned up they didn't have our booking, and after a small panic they eventually found us a room. The common areas were tatty and obviously hadn't been decorated in a while, and whilst the bedroom was very good, the bathroom area needed a little decorating TLC.The first night was good, although the bottom sheet didn't fit the double bed and kept coming off.The second night (Saturday) was a nightmare; they had some function on that we heard (we were on the 2nd floor) go on into the early hours of Sunday morning, and then we had the noisiest neighbours who wouldn't/couldn't talk quietly and kept us awake between 3 and 4am (and we had a 4 hour drive home to come that morning), now whilst I can blame the hotel for these ignorant people, because of the lost booking we had been put into a family room, so I would expect greater care on who was next door or soundproof the rooms.Whilst the receptionist on the Sunday morning wad apologetic, she did offer a free upgrade next time we stay, but we unfortunately will not be giving them our custom again.
DO NOT BOOK FOR A VENUE. Especially special events like birthdays or weddingsI have waited patiently. 5 days have passed and still no contact from management about a complaint. Apparently they are happy to allow their staff to call the customers liars, not once but twice. Even when it's been realised that their staff lied and not the customer. They offered me the Kings Suite for a venue. As I don't know the hotel well and I couldn't remember the name of the suite I was shown, I accepted the suite they said. I turn up for my celebration, only to be led down a dirty "enclosed" corridor, down some stairs and into what was known as the Skye Bar. Which, if you're from East Kilbride, you'll know is the old night club. This "suite" has not been decorated in over 20 years and it shows. It is still the same design and decor as it's days as Crystals nightclub. The toilets are broken and the tables and carpets were beyond their years of wear. The bar was poorly stocked and the drinks were flat. People had to wait for 10 minutes to get a Tennants lager and although they had taps for items like Guiness, there was none in the building. They had no lemonade, and a member of staff had to go to Sainsbury's to buy a 4pk of 2l bottles. As a venue for a party, not one member of staff came and introduced themselves to me. Not one member of staff asked if everything was ok, the tables were not dressed and the cake table had a tablecloth thrown at it, in the hope that it would land somewhat decently on the table (it didn't). The dj didn't appear until 8.30 and again did not speak to me. After half an hour he said he'd take requests AFTER the buffet and the cake were cut at 9pm (the only time a member of staff spoke to me and we were there from 7.30). He then played a mixture of music, including extremely inappropriate music for children. Overall I would rate the experience half a star. But because we made the best of a bad situation, the staff and management at The Bruce Hotel are saying that it's not an issue. DO NOT BOOK.
Great price, clean room and a lovely atmosphere. The staff were also very friendly. I enjoyed my stay and would definitely stay again.
